Your connection guide

Bring trulyform
into VS Code.

Install trulyform as an MCP server, let VS Code sign you in, and GitHub Copilot’s agent can create forms and read responses next to your code.

Before you start

What you need

  • An up-to-date VS Code. Signing in to MCP servers arrived in version 1.101, and the labels below come from 1.140.
  • GitHub Copilot. GitHub includes MCP on every Copilot plan, Free among them.
  • On Copilot Business or Enterprise, the MCP servers in Copilot policy turned on by your admin. GitHub ships it switched off.
  • A trulyform account, which you can also create during sign-in.

trulyform Free covers MCP, and nothing runs on your machine: the server is online, so there’s no package or command to install.

Step 1

Add trulyform with one click

On the computer where VS Code is installed, open:

Add to VS Code

Your browser hands the link to VS Code, which shows the trulyform server page. Select Install. The link only sets the name, http as the type and our URL.

Or add it from the Command Palette

  1. Run MCP: Add Server... from the Command Palette.
  2. Choose HTTP (HTTP or Server-Sent Events).
  3. At Enter Server URL, paste:

MCP server URL

https://trulyform.com/mcp

Select the text to copy it.

  1. At Enter Server ID, replace the suggested ID with trulyform.
  2. Pick Global to have it in every workspace, then Copilot Global.

Share it with a project

To give everyone on a repository the same setup, commit a .mcp.json file at the workspace root:

VS Code MCP configuration

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "trulyform": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://trulyform.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}

Select the text to copy it.

The file holds no credentials. Each teammate signs in with their own trulyform account the first time the server starts. VS Code doesn’t run servers from workspace files while a folder is in Restricted Mode.

Step 2

Allow the sign-in

When the server first starts, VS Code asks: “The MCP Server Definition 'trulyform' wants to authenticate to trulyform.com.” Select Allow, and your browser opens trulyform.

  1. Log in, or sign up and confirm your email in that browser.
  2. On the approval screen, the return address is VS Code’s: usually http://127.0.0.1:33418/, or https://vscode.dev/redirect when the local address isn’t available.
  3. Confirm the email and organization, then choose Approve access.

No prompt yet? Run MCP: List Servers, select trulyform and choose Start Server.

What you’re approving

Read access to forms and responses across your current organization, plus creating forms, editing drafts, and publishing. This includes teammates’ forms; there is no read-only or per-form selection. Requested data is shared with the assistant under its policies.

Step 3

Use trulyform in agent mode

  1. Open the Chat view from the Chat menu in the title bar with Open Chat.
  2. Select Agent in the agent picker.
  3. Under Configure Tools, make sure trulyform’s tools are checked.

Connection check prompt

List my trulyform forms.

Select the text to copy it.

trulyform marks its reading tools as read-only, so Copilot can run list_forms without stopping. A fresh account has no forms, and an empty list still shows the connection is live.

For tools that change things, Copilot asks first. Allow in this Session is the main button; its menu adds Allow Once and Always Allow Tools from trulyform, and Skip declines.

Build a form from your project

Your first form prompt

Read this repository's README and CONTRIBUTING files. Create a trulyform onboarding survey for new contributors: their name and GitHub handle, which areas of the project interest them, how much time they can give each month, and what would help them make a first contribution. Save it as a draft; don't publish it.

Select the text to copy it.

Look over the draft in trulyform. When it reads well, ask Copilot to publish it and link the form from CONTRIBUTING.

Sign out, stop or uninstall

From MCP: List Servers
Select trulyform for Stop Server, Restart Server, Show Output and Sign Out.
Uninstall
In the Extensions view, find trulyform under MCP Servers - Installed and choose Uninstall. A server added to .mcp.json goes away when you delete its entry.
Revoke in trulyform
Under Settings → AI connections, choose Revoke access for the VS Code connection.

Revoking blocks new requests; responses already shown in chat remain there.

Manage AI connections

When VS Code can’t connect

Copilot ignores trulyform.

Check that you’re in Agent mode and that trulyform is ticked under Configure Tools. Naming trulyform in your request helps too.

MCP servers are blocked for my account.

On Copilot Business or Enterprise, an admin has to enable MCP servers in Copilot. Some companies also limit MCP through VS Code device policies. Ask whoever manages your setup.

Sign-in fails or keeps looping.

Open MCP: List Servers, select trulyform and choose Show Output; the sign-in itself logs to the Auth: trulyform.com output channel. To start over, run Authentication: Remove Dynamic Authentication Providers, then start the server again.

VS Code asks me to sign in to trulyform again.

This follows a revoke in trulyform, or 30 days without using the connection. Allow the sign-in and approve once more.

VS Code documentation

We checked these steps against the pages below on October 4, 2026. VS Code updates its screens from time to time, so its own documentation is the final word.
